Meet Our Boys!
While the focus of my breeding program stays the same, time has changed the boys. I have lost a lot of my males in the past year to old age and retirement. I'm very sad for the change, but still excited for the future. I will always be grateful to the dogs that provided me with a legacy here at Thistle Ridge and they will never be forgotten.

Thistle Ridge Shiner Sow's Ear Sparkle x Sow's Ear Phoenix 11.25", Tri, Rough, Baer Normal DOB 4/13/07
What can I say about my little boy Shiney! He is the bomb. Looking at him just won't do it for you, you have to experience this little atom bomb in all his glory. I started him in the field this year, and he is true to his genes. He went straight in the hole, marked scent, you name it. He's a tiny little guy, but makes up for what he lacks in size in his grit and personality. He is a true dork in every sense of the word, he chases dirt that he digs up himself, he grooms poor Woody until his ears almost bleed, he's never met a dog or human he doesn't like. He's just like his mother except she might be smarter (which is frightening). We always joke and say Sparkle is straight out of Dr. Suess's Whoville with her crazy hair and adorable personality. Well, he is little Shiney-loo Who because he is just like her. I bred him in 2007 to Thistle Ridge Valentine and got some wonderful, very hairy puppies. I loved them so much I'm going to do it again. I kept one daughter, Chigger, and she is turning out to be just beautiful. He is what I hoped I'd get from the cross of his mother and father and was worth all of the wait and expense to get him here.

Woody

The Hollow Woody The Hollow Godiva x The Hollow Checkpoint 14" Rough coat, Tan and White
Woody came to me from Jose Rico (The Hollow Terriers), and has what might be one of the nicest pedigrees around. Heavily influenced by Garon's Sailor, he has a nice cross of almost everything good about this breed. Beacon Sam is is great grandfather, Sailor and Tippy are his great grandparents on another branch, Sailor, Sizzle, Tag, Fox Run Fergus, York, Foxnorton Tyke, they are all in there and came together to create movement like nothing I've had before. I've used him on three girls and the first litter grew up to be excellent girls. One had an amazing, tiny chest, and very harsh coat and a great personality and was showing a lot of drive before her owners lost her (another tragic terrier story). One litter is just a couple of weeks old, and the third is due any day now. He has turned into an amazing dog with a beautiful head, incredible drive, and a personality that makes him a stud prospect we all hope for. He likes to be carried around like a baby, is just as happy to hang out with the boys as the girls, and has the desire to please me combined with the tenacity in the ground to make one super hunting terrier. I am so excited to see what his two litters from this year turn out like. If he comes close to reproducing even some of these qualities he will have been more than worth the wait.

Phoenix

Sows Ear White Riot x The Hollow Aftermax
NHC to Groundhog
11.5", bl/white, rough, BAER normal
I've always love this little dog! From almost the minute I saw him, I knew he would be Sparkle's man. I bred her to him and got my awesome little dog, Shiner. And then it was time to either breed Sparkle one last time, or just forget it. My friend Lynne tracked him down and found out he was available to be moved on. As even though I needed a male like I needed a hole in my head, we decided to buy him anyway! Well, it paid off. Not only is he a pleasure to live with, but when I bred him to Sparkle for her finale, he gave me the Monster. So now that the whole family is here, I have my very own version on Jack Russell Who-ville! Phoenix is pretty well known so I don't feel like I need to list his wonderful record or offspring, but he is a part of our family now and I don't see that changing. He spends his time between here and Del Rio (with his other family, the Lozanos) at Mach One. He has a pretty good life in Texas. I see good things for my girls in the future, and his legacy is already here in Monster and Shiner.

Monster

Thistle Ridge Monster
Sow's Ear Sparkle x Sow's Ear Phoenix
11.5" , tan/white, rough, Baer Normal
Oh Monster. The name says it all. This is one of the cutest, funniest dogs I have ever met - let alone owned! He is a hit everywhere he goes. And that is a lot of places. He is my distraction dog at the prison where I teach inmates to train dogs. He is my demo dog in dog training videos. He goes with me to dog shows just because he's funny. And he has a ball attached to him at all times. He is his mother and his father in every way. He's my little man and he is a little monster. I'm not really sure what else to say about him :)

Harley
Harley is our first Jack Russell Terrier and he started it all for us! He made me crazy for this breed and was also responsible for what became a career in animals and dog behavior. He is not used as a breeding dog, but he is our most versatile terrier. He has won many trick and costume classes at trials. His passion is go to ground and he has a trial certificate and has placed in go to ground, obedience, and racing. He also received a special award for having the best personality at the Spring GCJRTN 2000 Trial. He has won several photo contests and has even appeared on the cover of Good Dog! Magazine. He is a Canine Good Citizen and helps us teach our training students good manners! He is getting older now, coming up on ten and I can hardly believe it. He spends his days chasing squirrels and acting as the fun police. He can't stand anyone to have a good time around here!

Creating a Legacy
Culhallen's Mic
2000-2010
Mic has left a great legacy in his wake. We lost him this year, but he will never be forgotten. Below are some of his offspring, and we have two more beautiful puppies from his last litter. I look forward to seeing his grandchildren and what they contribute to some of the best lines around.

"Trouble" lives in Louisiana with his owner, Rebecca
"Chili" lives in Illinois with Tim and Dawn Weiss. He has done very well in the ring and in the field.
Duncan
2000-2010

Duncan Jones of Thistle Ridge By Glencoyne Rory (M. Ogden, Wales) out of Split (David Jones, Wales)
Duncan was my first working terrier, and he was enough to spoil anyone. He was taken from the field early due to a rare disease contracted in the field, but lived out his last years with me as a pet. I don't know if there will ever be another dog like Duncan. He was named for the Highlander, and as with his namesake, I'm afraid there really can be only ONE. I can never express my appreciation to the people that were responsible for bringing this amazing terrier into my life and for changing the way I see this breed. He is the reason I hunt my dogs and why I do everything the way I do. He was the best - beautiful, driven, and as good of a pet as you could ever ask for. My boy - if I am never fortunate enough to find another dog like you, I feel blessed and humbled to have had the honor of sharing my life with you.
Deuce

Thistle Ridge Deuce July 28, 2000 - December 30, 2001
On December 30, 2001, we lost Deuce to a horrible accident - a car took his life. How many times have I told people that "death by car" is the main killer of Jack Russell Terriers? Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine living that very nightmare myself. He was only missing for a minute. We were on a hill hunting and could see the road in the distance, the cars slowing down. I knew instantly what had happened, my life changed in one horrific moment. Deuce was handpicked by me to stay here. We had no intentions of keeping a puppy from his litter, but we ended up keeping two. The first male to be born at Thistle Ridge, he took my heart the minute I saw him. I called him "Baby Huey" as a little guy, he was so sweet and such a big funny puppy. As he started to mature, I knew he would always be special to me. He was my "velcro" dog, always by my side, focused on my every movement, loyal until that very last moment when he strayed. The only other time he had gone missing on a hunt, we found him sitting at the truck, waiting on me to give him one of Steph's leftover snacks. He is now forever among friends, buried with Stephanie's dogs in Kansas at Thorn Hill - the place where we were introduced to hunting, the place where he met his match. Life goes on, but it will never be the same without him.
Jeeves (retired)
.JPG)
Jeeves Jones Billbridge (Sayner's) Jinx x Bayfox Jack 14.5", Tri, Rough
DOB 9/12/00
Jeeves came to be by pure luck and accident, but he taught me one thing for sure, if you want it, ask for it. I have had trouble breeding Dash, Jeeves littermate, and her daughter is proving to be just as difficult. I love the bloodline and the offspring that I have gotten out of her, so when I saw Jeeves' owner's Carol and Gary Roth, at a trial last year, I asked about him and told them I was thinking of using him. Gary jokingly tried to sell him to me and I knew the very last thing I needed was an intact male (or any dog, but I'm stupid like that). Well, about 6 months passed and their daughter, Brenda, who is a good friend of mine, got in touch and said that her folks were retiring and wanted to know if I would like to have Jeeves. I'd just had a miss with Dash and a disaster with Liza, so I jumped on it. He is the coolest dog. He's like the big dorky version of Shiner. He is very much like Dash, only bigger, and is a really easy male to deal with. We had an "uh oh" the day after he got here from Colorado, which resulted in a beautiful litter which I plan to repeat. I apologize for the ungroomed photos, they don't do his structure justice. But they do show his great personality and what he's all about - playing ball and peeing! Jeeves gave me some really great pups and they are all living the good life - hunting and traveling the world. When I downsized this year I sent him back to the great state of Colorado, he's living the good life in retirement.
Sow's Ear Bullseye aka. "Bull" Sow's Ear Redwitch "Mona" X Windermere Absolut
Moved to Arizona - please contact me if you need information

Bull came to me from Karen McCarthy at Sow's Ear Farm, and I was thrilled to have him. He served his purpose here for me, and when someone asked about him that could give him a home with more girls and, best of all, a little human boy to play with, I jumped at the chance for him. I have his son, Spook, that I plan to use in the near future, and his daughter, Liza, to carry on his good stuff, so I thought I'd share him. He's a little guy at just 11.5" tall and still has beautiful conformation for such a small dog, and an awesome smooth coat. I have to admit that my fascination with Bull started because he reminds me so much of Duncan in both personality and looks - but in a much smaller package. In the show ring he has done well, placing 5th in his class at the JRTCA Nationals and Reserve Dog puppy at our first trial together. In his show career he has gone on to achieve many class wins as both a puppy and an adult, and has won some conformation championships as well.
His pedigree speaks for itself, consisting heavily of Garon's Sailor influence, and well as Riverview Flare, Corn Row Tyler, and many other terriers that are well known and respected throughout the terrier community. I have a female from him, Liza, and access to several of his kids for my breeding program. He is a wonderful dog and contributed a lot of wonderful qualities and genetics to my breeding program.
